Davidson County Commissioner Fred McClure joined me in Lexington last week to officially sign the Relicensing Settlement Agreement on behalf of Davidson County.
The county is the latest organization to signal their support for Alcoa to receive a new license for the Yadkin Project. More than 20 organizations, including state and federal agencies, local governments, environmental groups, and homeowners previously signed the relicensing agreement.
"We just realized we needed to have the partnership with Alcoa," McClure told the Lexington Dispatch.

- Ray Barham is relicensing manager for the Yadkin Hydroelectric Project. Alcoa Power Generating Inc. (APGI) has been working closely with local and statewide organizations regarding the future operation of the Yadkin Project since 2002.
The Relicensing Agreement
In May 2007, APGI announced a relicensing settlement agreement that will signficantly improve water quality, allow for increased water withdrawals by local communities and protect the water supply during times of drought.
In addition, the agreement will boost recreational opportunities in region by extending the recreation season, providing land for new and expanded parks, and developing new swim areas, fishing piers, camp sites, etc.
The agreement strikes a balance among many competing interests along the Yadkin River and enjoys widespread support from state and federal agencies, local governments, homeowners and recreational users, environmental interest groups and others.
